Valluvar
Kottam: This popular tourist spot situated near The Park is
a memorial to the poet-saint Tiruvalluvar. Shaped like a temple chariot
with a life-size statue of the saint, Valluvar Kottam has an auditorium,
which is said to be the largest in Asia and can accommodate about 4000
people.
Fort St. George: One of the first bastions
of British power in India, this fort built by the East India Company
(1639-1640) marks the beginning of Madras as a modern
city.
The Marina Beach: During your stay at The
Park, chill out at the Marina Beach- the second longest beach in the
world. The perfect time to visit this beautiful beach, is early in the
mornings or late in the evenings. The entire stretch is full of statues
symbolising Tamil culture.
Light House: If you are
staying at The Park, plan a visit to Light House. Situated at the south
end of the Marina Beach, it adds glory to the lustre of the golden
sands.
San Thome Basilica: Built in 16th Century
by the Portuguese, it was made a basilica in 1896. The beautiful stained
glass window at the basilica narrates the story of St Thomas and the
central hall depicts scenes from the last days of
Jesus.
Kalpaleshwarar Temple: This
temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva is the biggest in the city. You must visit
this fine specimen of the Dravidian style of architecture. Located near
The Park, this 37-metre gopuram with its artistic eloquence depicting
Hindu mythological tales makes it an interesting tourist
spot.
Shopping: The Park is
situated on Anna Salai, the hub of shopping and business in Chennai. With
several shopping arcades, restaurants and movie-theatres in the vicinity,
you will never fall short of entertaining and indulging
yourself.
